**NEVER* USE A DEBIT CARD FOR TRAVEL!!!**
You could lose all the money in your account. You don't have the credit
card company to protect you from theft. A prepaid card is as bad as a
bank debit card, maybe worse. Yes, the rates are better with debit
cards, but it's not worth the risk of losing all your money. Lots of
places won't take debit cards either.
We were robbed at gunpoint while traveling. They got two of our credit
cards. Luckily we had a third. I reported the theft within 1/2 hour--as
soon as I could--and had those cards cancelled and reissued. If I had a
prepaid card, I would have lost everything. If I had a debit card, and
the thief had my PIN, I could have lost my entire bank account.
It costs more to use a credit card. ATM withdrawals are loans. There's
no float. Interest is charged as soon as the cash pops out of the
machine. But I'd rather pay those fees than lose everything. I've
traveled broke several times and I'd rather not do it again--it's fun
when you're 20, but the fun factor fades as years go by.
DO NOT USE A DEBIT CARD FOR TRAVEL!!

I would consider getting one of the ATM debit cards from that table I posted
that have no or little fee charge and do it that way.
I think it will be the easiest, most flexible and give you as good as rate as any ...
