Are you sure you mean "Shockware" and not "Shockwave"?

If it is "Shockware" then you might want to do some research on that or
even consider removing it. (Go to Tools/Options/Content/Manage and find
the player in the list. Click it once to select it, then click "Change
Action" will confirm what program it runs.

If you go here:

http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/sett
ings_manager.html

you can change your Flash Player settings. This is the Settings
Manager. The options on the left side of the screen "Global Privacy
Settings Panel, Global Storage Settings Panel", etc are all the
different choices of what you can change on your system.

If you need to update your flash player you can go to:

http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=Sho
ckwaveFlash&ogn=EN_US-gntray_dl_getflashplayer

or just wait to load the content of a page. If the flash player you
have installed isn't correct, you'll be prompted to download the new
one.

Adobe also (IIRC) adds something to your registry to periodically look
for updates. I'm not 100% sure since I go through my registry and
remove "helpful" programs like that...

I have to right-click any flash content to get to the settings, but I
don't see any updating options there.
