That should be the easy part. Assuming that your " sound card " ( do garden variety PCs really require a third party sound card these days ? ) has a mini plug line input port, and your using the venerable Revox A77 simply obtain a stereo RCA to stereo miniplug patch cable, connect the output of the Revox to the input of the computer, make the line input active in your Windoze sound control panel and open your sound recording program du jour, Audacity or what have you. If you have a separate USB sound input device you will need to install and configure it's own drivers, software, what ever but the hardware connections between the tape deck and the sound input device should be similar. Make a test transfer or three to check levels and your in business. If your recording program fails to see any incoming audio check the programs' own input settings to be sure that the software has taken note of the line input setting for the computer hardware. Software is cranky that way - even ( gasp! ) on Macs.

I detest 'on-board' technology because, that leaves the user at the mercy and idiocy, of the motherboard manufacturer. That is why I have the Audigy 2ZS

I connected the RCA-to-Stereo patch cable. The Line Input is active. While I have that active, the tape deck is still not recognized. I double-checked the positioning of the patch cable on, both, my sound card and, the tape deck. I didn't find any problem with the positioning.

I will check the tape heads to make sure they are coming in contact with the tape.
