If the meters are not indicating signal there is nothing on the
tape. Do you have a few different tapes to try?

OK, one step at a time. When you play a tape do the meters
indicate signal, and when you plug in headphones to the "PHONES"
front panel output on the deck can you hear the sound?
The meters do not indicate signal. While I do have a pair of
earphones, I would need an adapter to get them to work because the
jack is a different size.
I'm saying, systematically, let's get the deck first, then the
connection to the 2ZS (is that a laptop card?) then the software.
The 2ZS is, the Creative Labs SoundBlaster Audigy 2ZS.
