Did you check this troubleshooting page yet:

Backing up your profile:

I've also used Moz Backup:

Thanks for this and the other suggestions. Now that you mention profiles,
seems like problems started or got worse when I created another profile some
months ago, but can't remember if I did this to try and address the problems
I was already starting to have with FF. Should I delete the 2 current
profiles when I create a new one? Is there an easy way to copy everything
from one profile, particularly bookmarks, to another?
1. I have switched to FF 3, even though it is still beta (maybe RC now).
Much faster. Downside is some of your favorite add-ons may not work with
FF
3 yet.
2. Profiles can get corrupted. Some add-ons may be corrupted or interfere
with each other or have problems.
3. Try running "firefox --ProfileManager" and creating a new, blank
profile. Probably you will find everything smoother and faster when using
Gmail, etc. It may be worthwhile going to a new profile and copying over
what you need from the old one (like your bookmarks).

For the past several months using FF has led to multiple freezes per day
