Having been to a few earl life auctions I know how they work.

Ebay is not to simulate a real life auction. It is an auction venue.

If you are going to knock it come up with another site that is as popular and makes as much money as theirs does.

You may not think it operates as a real life Auction (And it does not) but it has made a boat load of money for it's founders.

What an interesting response. Sometimes I forget I'm living with a
couple generations that have grown up online, and have very probably
never even been to a Real Life auction. They think the Ebay way is the
way auctions work.

If you've actually been to some rl auctions, and they've all had
different rules, can you tell us if you've ever been to one where the
auctioneer used a timer and whoever placed the last bid before the
bell rang won the item? Even if other people were bidding? I've just
never heard of any such nonsense until Ebay came along and seemed to
base their software around an absolute timer.
