eBay already lets you enter a maximum price, but the winning bid is set by
the second highest price plus the auction's increment.
I worry about a shill running up the bid to eke my 'hidden' bid out into
the open. Last second bidding forgoes this worry. I often bid a
conservative amount, and come back at the last minute to bump it up just a
little more and win the item. Sometimes the conservative bid is good enough.
When I shop on Ebay, the item usually is not 'mission critical'.
