I bought mine used so that may have made a difference as it was
already operational when I got it. I don't know what is required to
activate one. It's a Toshiba Digital Media Server SD-H400. It is not
hooked up to the Internet or phone line. All I can do with it is
program it manually to record and/or watch "delayed live TV" to scan
past the commercials. I can't use any of the special features that
TIVO advertises or that are included with the Toshiba. But it serves
my needs well.
