Tom and Steve: Thanks for the straight talk and advice. I'm probably over-reacting, but a hard drive failure so soon was unexpected (and my neglectful attitude toward backing up data so foolhardy). In any event, I saw this piece on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2CxSAVwFqE and I see now that replacing the hard drive appears to be easy indeed. So on to NewEgg for a replacement. I'm also going to look into creating a VPN that will allow me to backup my hard drive using my wireless network. Best, Arnold
