There is a rather convoluted solution here, including some scripts, that
could probably be adapted to rsync:

Good idea, rsync works at the block level, not the file level. (I Googled
"rsync block level" and got that quickly confirmed.)
So I need an AppleScript that shuts down Entourage, runs rsync, and then
restarts Entourage.
I bet the tough part will be figuring out when rsync completes.
