I always switch to the Classic Start menu as well.  The non-classic seems to
be a random jumble of links, rather than a simple hierarchical and
expandable lists of functional areas.

In Vista, it works the same as in XP and 2000.

However, I will say that I like the design philosophy behind the "ribbon" in
Office 2007, where the toolbar and menu concepts are combined.  It makes
remarkable sense, but it does take getting used to.  I have one staffer
who's quick link toolbar stretches across the top of his screen.
