What they attempted to do was what I dislike about some Word Processor users. They wanted to make it more like a page layout program, but forgot the fine controls needed to male them good.

Word Perfect was a great word processor but then they insisted on adding crap so it could do fancy page layout stuff. Problem became it was still a Word Processor.

There was a reason programs like Aldus PageMaker were made (now owned by Adobe). They allowed Computer Users to start type setting documents. It was a page layout program. You typed up your text in a word processor and do some of your layout there. (paragraph, font etc.) Then you bring it into Pagemaker and layout your page. (Much like a newspaper laid out the newspaper)

But MS wanted to add some of that stuff to Word and made it bloated and difficult to use.

I still use Pagemaker for laying out pamphlets etc. I also use Publisher for some of the smaller tasks. That is what they were made for.

Even Adobe has gotten into this mix and done the very same thing with their programs.

They also forgot that they once had a very good word processor that was
very logical and easy to use. They have steadily crapped it up. I dread
each new release. Very sad because I used to be a big fan of MS Word and
was always recommending it. No more.
