Yup defender is almost useless.

Any Anti Virus may not get to Malware and other things that have hidden themselves deep within the OS.

Avast used to have a feature that said "Do you Want to Do a Scan on Boot Up"

This is the only way tog et rid of deep down infections such as Tom said by running a Boot Disk/CD with a Virus program Scanning your system.

Catches a lot of crap we don't know is there.
