So your settings are wrong for these repos
base
updates
which are both very important repos for sme server
You best enable them both & then run
yum update
signal-event post-upgrade; signal-event reboot
Also I am puzzled how your installed el4 contribs (on sme7.6) got transferred &
updated to el5 contribs (on sme8).
The backup/restore does not include or move contribs, only the contrib data &
config.
You said you did not install them manually & the smecontribs repo is not
enabled, so how did they el5 versions get installed.
I think some parts of your story are missing.
I am ready to suggest that this bug has been caused by important repos not
being enabled & therefore all required sme 8 packages are not fully installed,
perhaps as a result of using an unsupported backup & restore procedure.
