Yes, the machine freezes completely. The mouse quits, and I have to do a
hard restart. During one of my "BootX/boot from the CD/start the
installation/freeze just after DrakeX starts" cycles, I peeked at the
kernel message screen before moving on to the installation.
I might be able to manually install mesh from VT2 if I knew what VT2 is.
After looking around for some reference for VT2, I am wondering if it is
some option that you get if you can boot your G3 directly from the CD.
My machine will only boot from the system CD that came with the machine.
(Yes, that is inconvenient.) So I set up BootX, and I get the
installation CD going that way.
I don't know which SCSI controller the machine has. The controller
"mac53c94.o" is the one that everyone on the list mentions, and it is
also listed in the list of SCSI controllers that comes up during the
stage 1 install. Note, however, that during the stage 1 install, I can
select CD-ROM, and the installation software from the CD gets loaded. I
only get the list of SCSI controllers if I lie and say that I want to
install from my hard drive. Is there somewhere in the MacOS that I can
determine the SCSI controller?
