XFree-4.2.0 and ATI Rage 128 running fast(er)

Why does the installer not activate the agpgart.o module and sets the "AGPMode" to "4" for X-Server? On my system running 2.4.18-6mdk.smp kernel with ATI Rage 128 Pro PF graphics adapter it seems to make sense because X is running much faster (measured on mplayer for video playback). Is there anybody out there with the same experience?
