I have this problem with Mandrake 9.2 RC 1 ("ESR value before enabling vector
00000002" and the installation hangs).
I have a DFI AD77 (with a KT400 chipset) motherboard. (Related bugs : Bug 4477
and Bug 2943).
When I try to install Mandrake with the noapic options, there is still the problem
Same problem with Redhat 9, Debian, Knoppix (and then it is a kernel problem)

The system is a brand new ECS K7VMM mainboard, AMD Athlon XP 2100+
processor, 512MB PC2100 (DDR266) ram. All other peripherals (video,
network, audio, etc.) all are onboard.

I can install Mandrake 8.2 fine. The 9.0 release has this problem. The 9.1
RC1 has this problem.
