------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-12-09 03:30 ------- In Mandrake 9.2rc2 it's better but not yet completely perfect... I configured network & internet at install (clicking Configure when the summary of installation appears) : - ADSL & ethernet detected / continue - sagem (using pppoa) usb - detected (selected by default ! congratulations & thanks, well now you may translate it to French...). Configuration does not make a difference between "Free non dgroup" and "Free dgroup", how do you select dhclient or pppd ? Well I think that both are launched : I'm with "Free non dgroup" and dhclient is launched, it exits nicely though... - next configuring LAN shows a warning that it has already been configured (maybe it chooses eth0 when configuring sagem before LAN ? This warning makes the user uncomfortable, made me believe there's an error, when everything is correctly configured aftewards or nearly). I chose to unselect BOOTP/DHCP/ZEROCONF, so I find it strange that dhclient is installed and launched at startup ? -- Configure bugmail: http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. ------- Reminder: ------- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: UNCONFIRMED creation_date: description: I've installed Mandrake 9.2 beta 2 and my sagem fast800 (usb) does not work correctly, here are the remarks I've got : - now it works correctly : I only missed a correct /etc/resolv.conf (either link it to /etc/ppp/resolv.conf or add Free's DNS) - my config has an ethernet card for LAN and Sagem Fast 800 usb for connection to internet via Free - the problem may come from either DrakConnect or script to install eagle driver - I used the assistant - ADSL modem is detected but pppoe is selected instead of pppoa ADSL usb (detected) => it should be selected automatically instead of a LAN connection (what's the point of detecting it otherwise ?) - I did not enter any DNS as I was relying on autodetection - I got a "Bad IP" for eth0 (as in MdK9.1... till I fixed it) - After some reflexion, I modified /etc/sysconfig/network (it had only NETWORKING=yes, I added HOSTNAME and GATEWAYDEV) and then I completed /etc/resolv.conf with DNS to have the ping work (and then internet access) Conclusion : it should work first time, with not so many choices and be foolproof I'll verify again from scratch but I'm waiting till RC1 (or RC2) to verify that it works well. I think it's compulsory for Linux acceptance by the noobie (which I am).
