------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-17-09 03:16 -------
The text for configuring ADSL has not changed ("La faon la plus courante..."
and ends with "Si vous ne savez pas quoi choisir, utilisez pppoe"). For "Free
non dgroup", that's not appropriate : add "si votre modem a t dtect,
suivez les choix par dfaut qui devraient vous convenir" (if "Free non dgroup"
and "dgroup" are correctly managed).
Sagem (using pppoa) usb - detected => translate to "Sagem (pppoa utilis) usb -
dtct"
previous "Fournisseur d'accs" is lost (local instead of freeadsl), that's minor
first DNS is false : 169.254.0.2 (local ?) maybe taken from /etc/resolv/conf
(first one different of 127.0.0.1 ?)
second DNS is ok (next in /etc/resolv.conf)
I chose to erase DNS
next : LAN configuration : ok, no more annoying warning (the example 12.34.56.78
could be changed to something more realistic like 10.0.0.3 ? or 169.254.?.? like
windoze ?)
all previous configuration is kept
enhancements next :
- FQDN is not enforced, could be (would avoid postfix and httpd2 complaints)
- ez-ipupdate could be proposed for non-fix IP ? (later) make a partnership with
dyndns.org !
applying changes, here are all errors produced (after launching drakconnect) :
modprobe: Can't locate module serial
modprobe: Can't locate module serial
Please wait while probing serial ports...
Arrt de l'interface eth0 : [ OK ]
Arrt de l'interface eth1 : [ OK ]
Arrt de l'interface loopback : [ OK ]
Application des paramtres rseau [ OK ]
Dmarrage de l'interface loopback : [ OK ]
Activation de l'interface eth0 : [ OK ]
Activation de l'interface eth1 : [ECHEC ]
Can't get synchro within 60 seconds.
well, failure may be due to Free (I've had this problem before this evening,
problem of synchro), maybe add a link to http://fast800.tuxfamily.org/forums/
for diagnostic ? I had to use my "usual" method of stopadsl;startadsl and
unplug/plug modem to finally get it to work... and martian source is back (see
my bug) with the connection.
May require a more thorough test, what do you think of asking for contribution
on eagle-usb forum ? we may obtain volonteers ? (I can only test Free "non
dgroup", many *lucky* people are "dgroup"). You can open two threads : one
for "dgroup", one for "non dgroup"
/etc/resolv.conf :
search free.fr local
nameserver 127.0.0.1
nameserver 169.254.0.2
nameserver 212.27.39.2 # ppp temp entry
nameserver 212.27.32.177 # ppp temp entry

description:
I've installed Mandrake 9.2 beta 2 and my sagem fast800 (usb) does not work
correctly, here are the remarks I've got :
- now it works correctly : I only missed a correct /etc/resolv.conf (either link
it to /etc/ppp/resolv.conf or add Free's DNS)
- my config has an ethernet card for LAN and Sagem Fast 800 usb for connection
to internet via Free
- the problem may come from either DrakConnect or script to install eagle driver
- I used the assistant
- ADSL modem is detected but pppoe is selected instead of pppoa ADSL usb
(detected) => it should be selected automatically instead of a LAN connection
(what's the point of detecting it otherwise ?)
- I did not enter any DNS as I was relying on autodetection
- I got a "Bad IP" for eth0 (as in MdK9.1... till I fixed it)
- After some reflexion, I modified /etc/sysconfig/network (it had only
NETWORKING=yes, I added HOSTNAME and GATEWAYDEV) and then I completed
/etc/resolv.conf with DNS to have the ping work (and then internet access)
Conclusion : it should work first time, with not so many choices and be foolproof
I'll verify again from scratch but I'm waiting till RC1 (or RC2) to verify that
it works well. I think it's compulsory for Linux acceptance by the noobie (which
I am).
Here is an extract of /var/log/messages just after installing which I used for
