i also reinstalled mandrake 9.1 and in lilo i added the parameters acpi=off 
and pci=noapic and the i could ping the other pc's and contakt the internet.
So for me it works to 

Yesterday i was in Ede (holland) on a linux congres and one of the speakers 
was the maintainer of the 2.4 kernel.

He also mentioned the acpi problem. And that it was not solved completely

bug can be closed And i hope the acpi problem will be solved soon in the 
kernel.

Windows Xp home can use the network card
