well just guessing here but if they say defanged in them the only thing I know 
that does that is anomy-sanitizer which I just put into contribs. The only 
reason it would be doing this at all is if you are being sent a whole bunch 
of virii. In which case it deletes the atachment from the email and saves it. 
It should be under /var/spool/sanitizer or some such though. For some reason 
mine does not save it but instead just deletes it. 

It would be my guess you are getting a ton of virii and your anomy is 
misconfigured and throwing all the stuff into your /root dir for some reason.

But who knows I may be wrong. Thats just a guess.
