Your X server has to be configured to support mouse wheels.
Doesn't XFdrake do this for you? It should!
Then KDE 2 and all GTK (which implies GNOME) applications will
work out of the box with your wheel. Imwheel (which is a nasty
hack to provide mouse wheel support for stupid applications)
is evil stuff and for crack junkies only.
Just add
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
in your "InputDevice" section in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
This is for XFree 4.x only. XFree 3.x has a slightly different
syntax I can't remember.
