Hello,

I bought a few days ago a nice Duron 700 system, but I have a "little"
problem with my sound card. Let me explain.

My motherboard is a MSI K7TPRO (6330), with AC97 audio. I also have a
Sound Blaster Live! 1024. When I disable the AC97 chip in the BIOS,
Linux still detects it on startup, and it freezes completely (and
believe me, I don't reset my system without being forced to do so).

So, I enabled the AC97 in BIOS... Now Linux boots, and the VIA82CXXX.O
module seems to load (at least I have the line in the startup). But
then, when I "sndconfig", the AC97 is correctly detected, but I don't
hear the sound sample ("Hello this is Linus Torvalds", etc., and yes,
I've plugged the speakers =)), and the manual config leads to something
like :
        modprobe error :
        /lib/modules/2.2.15-4mdk/misc/via82cxxx.o : init_module: device
busy
        ----------------------------------------- : insmod
        ----------------------------------------- : failed
        ----------------------------------------- : insmod sound_slot_0
failed

So... AC97 doesn't, and won't work. No matter, I'd prefer to use my
Sound Blaster. So in the "manual" detection, I tried "Sound Blaster
Live!". I then hear the sample, but the sound is AWFUL (saturated). I
tried to load "Heroes3", I had some cracking sound for a while, and then
the program freezed too, after roughly 10 mins of play.

What should I do?? It's very frustrating to have a good PC without any
sound... =(

Thanks for any advice.
Gregus
