Hi Gregoire,
I have the same system and Soundcard, except for Duron 600 and I don't have
the same problem. I have never been able to get the on-board sound to work
so I disabled it and use my SoundBlaster Live! 1024. If you have access to
a DOS system, I suggest you flash the bios (download from the MSI website)
which I did before I tried to configure the sound system.
If that doesn't work, make sure that "alias sound emu10k1" is the only
sound entry in your /etc/conf.modules file and that your mixer settings are
ok. Also, check any sound cables. The amount of times I've assumed that
there is a software problem when it's the hardware that's causing it is
uncountable. Sorry if that's obvious, but just in case you haven't already
done this, it's important.
Finally, persevere with the emu10k1. It's an excellent soundcard. :)
Good luck,
-Karl
PS. Let me know if you have any luck with the on-board sound. Which module
should it be?
PPS. Also, please let me know if you you have any USB problems. I have an
ACM-class USB modem (Elsa Microlink 56k) which stalls on init if plugged
in, but hot-plugs fine. It's driving me nuts having to unplug and the plug
every time I want to dial out. Cheers, -k
