Had this problem too when I upgraded to LM7.0 which wrote lilo into /dev/hda1
instead of /dev/hda... (Yes, I reported it back then...)

Hint: *IF* lilo did the right thing, your W98 boot block should be in /boot.
There may be several boot.* files in there. You'll have to look inside each and
see if one of them is the W98 boot block. If you're lucky, it's just a matter
of writing it back with:
dd id=boot.???? of=/dev/hda1
With this method, your lilo is still fine...
BTW, I said "*IF*" because I have seen many boot.* files containing lilo, which
is not supposed to happen according to the above doc.
