No mention of the .moc file problems at all...
Well thats not true one place said to add
METASOURCES = AUTO
to Makefile.am
but while that put that line into all the Makefiles it
didn't appear to do much more than that...

I had to also cd to some other directories and give commands like
make kxsconfig.moc
and I had to do that rather a LOT!
I note that you don;t mention this so my guess is that
I'm missing SOMETHING IMPORTANT!!!!!

Yup, this is exactly what I did once kmatrix.kss was compiled.
