I'm not sure if it is a KDE, update-menus or mine own bug ...

Because of some other problems I've set root locale to enlish (plain
en). My LANGUAGES are set to ru:de:en. Default system locale is russian
(ru). After I've run update-locale as root I gound that all text in
standard menus was replaced with ????? when I started KDE under my own
account (russian locale). I ssupect what happens - update-menus/kde trys
to translate message using current locale and it of course fails.

It is not nice. Setting root locale to the least common denominator (a.k.a
C/POSIX) is not as unusual. I routinely do it (I can do with English when
doing sysadmin tasks).

This is Mandrake 7.2, KDE 2.1Beta2 (from unsupported directory) and just
updated glibc-2.2.
