I must say that I don't understand the logic in this thread:

First in the evolution of Linux there has never been any stop to hold back a 
better way to do things - this means that Linux is always leaving behind 
older levels of evolution.

This means that a user who wants to hold on to a certain level and asks for 
his applications to be updated, will have to do the job himself or follow the 
trend to the new level. Debian is a distribution that in many ways is 
down-patching its security patches.

Any comparison to Microsoft, without regards to its costs is just ridiculous.
