Yes they're called DLL's and a lot of apps replace system DLLs when they
install.  Which has a tendancy to break things and frankly is rather
annoying.  There is really only one way to solve the dependency issue
and that's to have rpms with static links (gag) or to just quit using
libraries and build everything into the app (like what happens a lot on
Microsoft platforms).  Neither solution is great but I'd rather have
dynamic links to libraries.
