I just know that most users will occasionally run the
software update to see what is updated, then upgrade
everything thinking that better is to come! I don't
think that opening up a seperate area for certain
installs has to be that painful. It could pop up a
window with specific instructions but I think the
simplest approach would be to post a temporary install
script button (or just have the script run
automatically) that would do all those steps you just
mentioned... maybe giving a choice to upgrade or
install the new kernel with a full (but simple)
explanation.
The main goal, I think, is to make sure that no
horrible surprises await them. It can be quite
tramatizing to newbies! A good warning about not
rebooting until lilo no longer complains should be a
must.
Maybe should automatically pop up warning messages if
lilo is not properly set when try to reboot or shut
down?
