Do you mean, you use either DVD or CD-RW in the same drive bay or you use both of them at the same time? > upon boot I have to include hdc=ide-scsi to get it to > be recognized. In any case, ide-scsi is pretty well known and mentioned in every HOWTO. If this is not something that can be > modprobed later or cannot be handled by devfs, No it can't. At least, not until ide-cd is built into kernel. It just takes over unless you say you do not want it. at > least you might create an entry in lilo.conf similar > to the default named linux-cdburner which would > include hdc=ide-scsi. > > Even booting with hdc=ide-scsi, sg in not loaded so > that I have to manually "modprobe sg" before I can > burn a cd. > It is (should be) loaded on access to /dev/sg* If it does not happen it means - devfsd bug. Any more info? - local configuration error - you created /dev/sg* manually and that turned off autoloading. Yes, I know, it is _really_ confusing for newbie - they are told by every HOWTO to look for /dev/sg0 and it does not exist. Any taker to update HOWTOs? -andrej > ===== > SI Reasoning > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > A requirement of creativity is that it contributes to change.
