What do you mean? It can be floppy, it can be cd-rw, it can be battery
pack, it can be CD ... it you mean that your model supports only floppy
and cd-rw - it means keeping registry of every possible combination for
every possible model. Hardly possible at all.

Yes, that is the task of kudzu actually :-) May be sometimes somebody
takes a stab at updfstab and makes it supermount friendly.
