I dunno if the packages in RC1 are different from mine, if so, forget this
mail.
But with latest cooker packages kernel-2.4.18.5mdk-1-1mdk and especially
samba-2.2.3a-7mdk ("Added a few new codepage/character sets") everything is
fine again for me.
