There are patches available for this known problem with 2.4.18 (sorry, no links at hand, check cooker archives maybe). This info has been forwarded to Juan. I am hoping that he is so silent because he is busy fixing this.
Next time I have the bandwidth to download a kernel srpm and the time to compile it, I will try the patches myself, but that won't be before the weekend I don't think :-(.
