AFAIK, source is downloaded from Gentoo mirrors which hold the
equivalent of SRPMS.

With some sort of hdlist-type file, a urpmi-derivative could be hacked
together to allow automatic download and compilation of packages with
dependencies.  If only I knew enough Perl, I'd do a proof of concept...
