Another way is to collect the desiccant cylinders from aspirin bottles and
use them instead of the bread. I find that they do the job as well.

It is best if you can keep the brown sugar in a tightly covered plastic 
container with a slice of white bread on top to prevent moisture buildup.

Can someone please refresh my memory on the best way to store an open box of

brown sugar so it doesn't harden like a rock?

I had to get it in order to make the October fest dinner posted on this list

a few weeks ago. I used a 3 qt crock pot, but a 5 qt probably would have 
been better.
