First of all, I grew up totally blind.  My mother being a registered 
nurse figured she wouldn't be around all the time when I needed to eat 
so she did much of the cooking training I had in the kitchen.  
Adjustment to blindness programs found me advanced compared to others 
going through.  The other thing was me and my sister in our younger 
years lived where my Mother worked which was in a nursing home so I had 
exposure to the kitchen and at least a couple of the cooks that also 
worked in that nursing home.  Since my Mother had got divorced in the 
mid '50's, it was a given both me and my sister would learn to cook.
