It depends on which grill you are using. You can use all of them, I suppose, but some should be marked for more accurate results. The one that I have is labeled a "six plate" grill". That is not accurate, though, because it comes with two, not six, as you would think. You have to buy the other four separately. I think this was very false advertising. Anyway, I had someone put a dot with adhesive backing on the low and medium settings. Some models have buttons that beep when pressed for time, some for temperature, and some for both. And, of course, some have neither.
