Hey Eileen, Oh no! I didn't realize that oatmeal has carbs! I have to be careful with those, too, now that I don't take the medication I was taking for a stomach issue.
I just don't like the taste of salt in my oat meal. Hope you get a chance to try the walnuts and apples. You know, you could also use others fruits--maybe some would be better with diabetic considerations. I love that combination. Usually I add in a little bit of raisins and cinnamon to the oats. And, even the old-fashioned type oats, not the instant, I do in the microwave. I’ve never added salt because I’m a diabetic I’m better off not adding any extra sodium. For that matter, I have to watch the amount of raisins/apples because the oatmeal on its own has a good amount of carbs that I have to watch as well. Thanks for the idea for apples and walnuts. I figured out one day that I like it with walnuts and apples--yum, yum!! Personal preference of course. I've heard about the salt in coffee. Also coffee in chili--only a little, but I've never tried either. I haven't tried salt in oatmeal yet either. One thing I heard I thought curious, Ethiopians put a little salt in coffee when they make it to remove bitterness.
