In a former job we wanted an example domain for use in marketing material,
so we registered one but never used it. I checked just now the domain is
still registered to the successor business. If a commercial organisation
can keep a domain registered for 17 years following an aborted marketing
campaign I am confident that people in this community could register and
maintain a domain for use in educational material for as long as the
material remains relevant.
