First of all, The program looks good so far...
However, as an American (for which there are two continents) - I object the americanisms.scm. I feel that you are trying to discriminate against the proper spelling of certain words for which you folks on the other side of the pond cannot get right.
1) The spelling in americanisms is probably designed for people in North America - in particular the United States of America 2) Given that we in the USA kicked your respective asses about 235 years ago...
I move that the names in the scheme scripts be changed to the american names and that a new script "British.scm" be put in place.
All joking aside, I think people should not need the americanisms.scm - they should use whatever the authors deem correct. I did not see people screaming at the use of colour in molscript....
Also - coot-utils.scm defines an americanism that should probably be moved....
