Doug Cutting commented on HADOOP-3578:
--------------------------------------

Would it work to set mapred.system.dir to rwx-w--w-, so that applications
besides the JobTracker could only write files? The file name to write could be
returned over RPC from the JobTracker.

Another option is to pass the data (job.xml) to the JobTracker over RPC, then
have the JobTracker write it somewhere that only it can read. The job.jar
could be handled similarly.

> mapred.system.dir should be accessible only to hadoop daemons

> Currently the jobclient accesses the {{mapred.system.dir}} to add job
> details. Hence the {{mapred.system.dir}} has the permissions of
> {{rwx-wx-wx}}. This could be a security loophole where the job files might
> get overwritten/tampered after the job submission.
