Have noticed hundreds of the surname of Hamilton, and think how difficult it must be to know which one is your ancestor. In my search for Thompson, I find only 5.
Nathaniel, William and wife Margaret, John, and Joseph all in Strabane area. What more can I do to find common threads with these THOMPSONS??? Am I the only one searching for THOMPSON ?? Thank you for your help. Donegal 1642 Hello County Tyrone members, Finally have checked all the items in the Website and amazed how much work has been done by Mr. Len Swindley. Thank you so much. Found in Strabane Death Announcements 1785-1849 John Thompson deceased April 8, 1843. At his sister's home. Could he be elderly and living there? Could he be the father of this William??? William THOMPSON deceased Dec. 12, 1841 age 81 and wife, Margaret, 7 months later (advanced age) deceased July 17, 1841. " Could be parents of our John W. ( William) THOMPSON" Since William d. 1841 - 81 years = born 1759. Our John W. Thompson was born ca 1778, m. ca 1795, children: William b. 1796, Matthew b. 1798, Margaret b. 1800 and John b. 1803 or-4. When baby John was 2 years old, John W. Thompson took the whole family to America ca. 1805. (This follows all the name patterns etc.) Wish we could prove this somehow. Our John W. Thompson married "E" in Tempo, Co. Fermanagh. ca. 1895, He always insisted he was from Co Tyrone, Enniskillen . Would Strabane be there? I discovered that Enniskillen Townland is in County Tyrone, by Kingsmill in Cookstown PLU. Thank you for any help with our Thompsons. Donegal 1642 Hello Kathleen, How lucky for you to have been in Salt Lake City attending lectures and presentations by Fintan Mullin and Gillian Hunt from the Ulster Historical Foundation in Belfast. And I am delighted that you have found family connections in my latest submission to CTI http://www.cotyroneireland.com/<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cotyroneireland.com%2F&data=02%7C01%7C%7C5505a15f05044f0f3d1808d637bd89b0%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C636757684523411949&sdata=HQRZCNarOYCOwWC203ERBwYpQkaK%2BBhQHJxZWMbEhfo%3D&reserved=0> - the 1642 muster roll of Sir Robert Stewart at Raphoe, Co. Donegal; these early settlers would have arrived from Scotland within the previous 20-30 years (at most) so you can commence your Ulster-Scots family tree with anyone recorded in the muster. And thanks for your efforts in promoting CTI at the Conference; it truly is a community website with quality resources with all submissions offered on a voluntary basis. Many thanks and continued good fortune with your research.
