Steve,

Even tho you can get higest RPM at full throttle by leaning, I think it is
proper to leave the mixture at full rich for max power climb. This
additional
fuel helps cool the engine parts --valves, etc at full power....and is
considered necessary to prevent burned valves...

Now, if you lean at 3/4 throttle, to get best RPM to compensate for high
altitude airports, then you still get the additional rich mixture at full
throttle, while proper mixture for the altitude adjustment....The
economizer
valve (rich mixture ) only operated at full throttle openings.
