Perhaps the most important thing to do in upgrading your panel to the
Alon style is to get the FAA approval before you start unscrewing the
old panel.  I've heard of FAA guys rejecting the modification and making
people put the old panel back. Working with them and getting prior
approval could save you a lot of grief.

IMHO changing to the Alon panel is a very good idea and I'd like to do
it someday.
