It looks like it might be all laid out in Ercoupe Service Memorandum 39. Serial numbers 813 to 2622 originally had the Ternplate tanks which had a level indicator in the right tank.
IF the logs show Memo 39 as having been complied with you might have a case with the FAA. However if this memo has been installed, then you would have the aluminum tanks with a level indicator in the left tank.
