So as long as they're really in good shape, then I wouldn't worry. They've held up this long. If you're A&P has a particular gripe, he should tell you (like "They all fail from metal fatigue at XXXX hours". If so, they'd have a life limit). If on the other hand, they're in lousy shape and need new shafts, coils, magnets, bushings, etc. just to be airworthy, then you're looking at the economics of repairing them vs the cost to replace.
I personally would not buy a new Bendix mag. As far as I know, they come with a pre-existing list of recurring AD's. Not what I'd expect from a brand new mag. On the other hand, I wouldn't get rid of a perfectly good Bendix mag, either, unless again, the economics of repairing it were prohibitive. In either case I would not spend the price of a new Slick to repair an old Eisemann or Bendix (or Slick, for that matter). BTW, about 20 years ago Slick's reputation went in the dumper. The mags they were building were designed to be used for about 1000 hours and then discarded. This did not go over too well, and probably wasn't a good strategy. (Musta been some Detriot influence.) Lately, however, they have been producing a quality product with maintainability designed in. Their current product does not deserve the same rap.
