A couple of years ago, my IA talked me into getting rid of my 'outdated'
Eisemanns and replacing them with the 'newer and hotter spark' Slicks.
He said that since there were no replacement parts that I might as well
get rid of them now before they let me down (no pun intended) while I
was in the air. I ordered a pair of new "Slicks" and paid the core
charge on the returnable Eisemanns, which I finally got back, plus the
$150 Slick factory rebate. So, the conversion wasn't all that expensive
as it seemed. But, since then I've heard that the Slicks are 'throw
away' mags (I've heard that they since have come out with a rebuildable
model) and also there are now a couple of places that not only have
parts for the old Eisemanns, but also there are 'rebuild facilities' for
them. Had I known this at the time I would have kept the old, but
reliable, Eisemanns and not replaced them. At the time I had a "non
shielded" ignition harness so I couldn't hear anything on my handheld
transceiver. I wanted to install a shielded harness so my IA suggested
that I get the new mags at the same time (and of course the 'eyebrows'
to incorporate the taller plugs and harness elbows).
I gave up the conversion to Cleveland Brakes in order to afford
the new
mags and harness.
That was probably the worst decision I've made on my coupe during
the
14 years that I've owned it.
So far, tkhe mags are fine, but because of those [EMAIL

goodyear brakes (they're a disgrace to the term 'brakes') my coupe is
still down for reasons attributed to not having acceptable brakes!!!
Like I said, no doubt the poorest decision I've made since I've owned my
coupe. The Eisemanns were running, I should have forfieted the shielded
ignition and gotten some good brakes, then got the new mags and harness
at the next annual. SAFETY FIRST, THE LUXERY OF A RADIO SECOND!!!!! Next
May will be 2 years I've been 'grounded', hopefully I'll get in the air
this summer. Maybe.......
Sorry to get carried away, here's my 2 cents worth....Rebuild the
old
Eisemanns, no matter what the cost, they are good mags and a whole lot
cheaper than buying two new mags, regardless of the brand. Slicks are
good, Bendix are good, and.....Eisemanns are good. I think this is what
is meant by the term.."20-20 hindsight". Oh well, live and learn.
Right?
