Engines that do NOT have key operated starters typically have impulse
couplings on BOTH mags.  Key starters shut off the mag WITHOUT the impulse
coupling to keep it from firing early during starting and kicking the
engine
backwards.  If you're hand proping, this can really put a damper on your
day.
 As far as I know, all C-series engines with pull type starters and all -8
engines (armstrong starter) must have impulse couplings on BOTH mags.
