No, Dick, I'm sorry, but you are wrong about not being able to convert
the
C model to the D. My mechanic and I just did it to mine about a year and
a
half ago. The whole approved procedure is laid out in Ercoupe Information
Letter Number 1, dated January 1, 1956. Subject: Conversion of Ercoupes
to
Later Models.
I agree, putting Ercoupe wings on a Forney would not be legal, but
converting a C to a D is no problem. Right after I bought my C model and
was
taking instruction in it, my instructor complained that we were over gross
when
we had full fuel, but the D model would not have that problem. He
wondered
what the difference was.
I called Fred Weick and asked. He said there was no structural
difference. He said the Feds allowed a 1400 pound gross weight due to the
fact
that it was certified under Part 03, which permitted the higher gross
weight.
He said the only difference between the C and the D was that the Feds
required
a stainless steel skin between frames "A" and "B" in front of the
windshield,
as they considered that area part of the firewall, and they also limited
the
up
travel of the elevator to 9 degrees.
I know quite a few people who have converted their C's to D's.Syd Cohen NC94196 Wausau, WI [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > I fear you can't get there from here.
